A comedy about a guy who would do anything to get the girl of his dreams - and did
David Spade is Dylan Ramsey, who lusts after his French cello-playing neighbour, Lila (Sophie Marceau). He hits upon the plan of kidnapping her beloved dog and then helping her look for him, in order to let her see what a great guy he is. Aided and abetted by his moronic friend, Wally (Artie Lange), he finds he has more than he bargained for on his hands, especially when Lila's ex turns up, Rene (Patrick Bruel). This is basically a standard romantic comedy type thing, with a more "wacky" side to it than the usual. Spade is quite funny, at times very funny, and some of the one-liners are excellent. It is very much in the Jim Carrey "Ace Ventura" mould, though not so manic, and the film largely centres itself around Spade and his comedic talents. Having said all this, it's an enjoyable enough film- funny enough not to get bored, but without a truly good comedy script to it. Worth watching if you fancy a light-hearted laugh, without having to work your brain around any subtleties.DJY STORYLINE:
